These noncompete agreements can be tricky.
Courts are reluctant to enforce them if they are reasonable in time and geographic scope. They look for legitimate business reasons for restricting future employment. Other options include nonsolicitation agreement and nondisclosure agreements, both of which are less restrictive than noncompete agreements. These will prevent (or at least legally discourage) ex-employees from luring your employees, stealing your trade secrets, and using your customer lists.
