Breaches

A breach of contract occurs when one party fails, without legal excuse, to perform any promise.

What are your rights at that point?  Can you stop performance of your end of the bargain?  Perhaps, if it's a material breach.  A material breach is one that goes “to the root of the contract.”  What exactly does this mean?  What if you think it's material, stop performance, and turn out to be mistaken?
